Tucson to the east coast

Our last post saw us enjoying the Luxury Life at the
Palm Springs Motorcoach Country Club.

After leaving there we headed over the mountains into the LA Basin for some
maintenance at Redlands Truck and RV.

We had an alignment done on the coach plus had dually valves installed in the rear wheels
which are long stems that eliminate the need for valve estenders.

We also had one of our inner wheels replaced as it was bent and out of round.
I had known about the wheel before we went to Alaska so this was a good time to address it.

Redlands is a top notch shop and is worth the drive.
They now have a small RV park with about 16 FHU spots so you have a free place
to spend the night a few blocks from the shop.   Its in a nice location with
the Citrus Trail (a walking and biking trail) right next to the park.

Leaving Redlands we headed to Casa Grande for a few days.
We picked up luggage, and exchanged clothes out of our storage in anticipation of our
next big trip which begins on May 17th.

Next stop on April 1st for 10 days was Catalina State Park.
From here we would finish up our last minute trip planning errands
prior to our launch to the east coast on April 10th.

One of our pre-trip errands was another haircut and scrub down for the Doodles.

We took them to Pets Plus on Oracle Rd where they have a self service dog wash.

Lucy in the Tub.
40 min or so later we were out the door with two clean and fluffy Dogs.
They will get one more bath about March 15th just before we set sail.

While in Tucson, we had a nice surprise...  a visit from Kates Brother.
He flew in and stayed at the Ritz Carlton Resort on Dove Mountain.

It turns out that the Ritz is litterally 1/2 a mile from where our new house
is being built so we met Paul for dinner and took him to see the model home.

We enjoyed a nice dinner (thank you Paul) outside on the patio
in the shade of the Saguaros.

On another night it looked like it was going to be a pretty sunset, so we drove from
Catalina back to Dove Mountain (about 20 minutes) to see what the sunsets would look like
from our new home when it is done.

Driving the Dove Mountain Parkway it was looking promising.

Pulling into our neighborhood we met another one of our neighbors...
We were told there is a herd of about a dozen Javelina that frequent the neighborhood
and this one was proof.

At our property the wild spring flowers were just starting to bloom.

When the sun set it turned out to be the awesome view that we thought it would be.
Then as day turned to night - the twinkling of the city lights below added to the magic.
I think we are going to like it here.

While in Tucson we managed to buy a bedroom set and a nice leather
sectional for the living room.

We will have them, and the rest of our stuff (which is currently stored in Tucson) delivered
to the house when we get back and it is finished in November.

Soon it was time to say good-bye to Tucson for now.
We have to get to the East Coast.

I have a work audit to complete in the beginning of May, we have Doctor Appointments,
and I have final paperwork and vet visits to complete for the dogs so that we can take
them out of the country on our next big adventure.

So on Tuesday April 10th we hit the road.
Our trip map below shows our route and nightly stops.

Our stops (numbered on map) were:

1)   Van Horn RV Park - Van Horn, Texas
2)   Bar J - Sweetwater Texas
3)   Bluebonnet Ridge - Terrell, Texas
4)   Poverty Point Reservoir State Park Delhi, La
5)   Camping World Campground - Anniston, Al
6)   Old Federal Army Corps CG  Flowery Branch, Ga

Bluebonnet was a nice park with a lake, pool, tennis and other amenities.
Close to the interstate - and the noise to go with it
Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park Terrell, Tx
Poverty Point Reservoir in La was about 2 miles north of I-20
We had a FHU pull-thru but the heavy rains with the cold front we'd been running ahead had
the hookup flooded and it was not useable.
Cabins on the lake in the State Park
Our pull thru - site # 40 - was huge.
Hookups were at the back end however so we had to disconnect the towed
in order to use them.
Huge Pull-thru site in Poverty Point SP
Old Federal Army Corp park about 40 miles north of Atlanta.
Its a beautiful Army Corp Park with water and electric at all sites.
Most of the sites are on the water or have a view of the water.

We will spend 4 nights here and then head to North Carolina where we have
a spot reserved at the Cedar Point National Forest Campground.

We'll use that as our base camp while we get our annual physicals, dentist checkups,
and I get a shot of go juice in my knee.

After NC we will make our final leg of the trip up to New Jersey
where we will finish our pre-trip errands and then park the bus
while we embark our our next journey.

The Journey begins May 17th!

Stay tuned...  it's gonna get interesting!

  1. Greg, you seriously do an outstanding job on this blog. Your progression of the story with photos is perfect. Great job. Sunset from new home site is beautiful. As for my fav, the doodle wash down. They both loomed like they said...Hey, what's the deal?" Thanks for the dream travel blog. You know it's in our future.
