The Henry Ford,
or Henry Ford Museum is a museum complex established by Henry Ford.
It was created based upon his desire to "preserve things of historical significance
and to portray the industrial revolution"..
Located in Dearborn Michigan,
it was the most eclectic museum and perhaps the most enjoyable
of any I've had the pleasure to visit.
The items on display ranged from steam power to jet engines.
Trains, planes, automobiles, power generating stations.
Home interiors from the 1800's to the present.
There was something for everyone and to visit was to walk the history of
this country.
We started off with a selfie at the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile
A steam engine used for various tasks including farm implements.
Today we might have a small Honda gas engine...
Back then they had this.
There were dozens of other items spanning the years.
The Dymaxion House - a potential house of the future (from a 1930's point of view)
The actual bus where Rosa Parks bravely refused to take a back seat
to white passengers helping to ignite the civil rights movement in the US.
A Northwest Airlines DC3
There was numerous other older aircraft.
The actual Presidential Limo that JFK was riding the day he was assassinated.
There was also the Regan, Eisenhower, Roosevelt, Limos and the
Teddy Roosevelt horse drawn carriage.
One of the earliest passenger trains.
The trains spanned from the early1800's thru the 1940's.
Part of the American Story.
Mc Donalds and a Chevy.
(Yes - there were cars of all makes and vintages in the Henry Ford.)
The variety and number of displays was amazing.
I've only just barely touched upon what we saw.
The story of the progression from coal and steam to gasoline and electricity
was told thru the actual machines and devices of the times.
We spent about 4 hrs here and rushed thru the place as we had to see a man
about a fish (went to Bass Pro Shop)
plus the Doodles were waiting and it was 2 hrs round trip.
If you are ever in the area I highly suggest this as a must see.
Great find Jim... enjoyable day!
After a shopping excursion at Bass Pro
(Kate & I got new hiking boots)
We headed back to the shack in time for this sunset.
Tomorrow we head east a couple of hours and then on Tuesday
we are going to arrive in Gettysburg, Pa for a couple of days and
see what we can visit.
See ya down the road.
Great travels. Enjoy and stay safe.
ReplyDeleteIs this Greenfield Village? I was there many years ago when I was a young teenager. I think it is the same place. Nice from what little I remember. Sounds like you had a good visit.
